RUG DOCTOR PRO BUYING FAQ

What is the difference between the red rental Rug Doctor machines and the blue Rug Doctor Pro machines available for purchase?

Millions already know about and have been renting Rug Doctor carpet cleaning machines for years. Now you can purchase the same powerful machine! The red rental Rug Doctor machines and the blue Rug Doctor Pro machines have the same features, the same horse power, and the same amps. The main differences between the two are that the red machine is for the rental market only and has an hour meter on it, whereas the blue machines are available for purchase, are unauthorised for rental use and you also have the option of buying a machine with the unique Quick Dry setting in addition to the standard Deep Clean setting.

Is the Rug Doctor Pro a professional grade machine?

Yes, both the Mighty Pro and Wide Track machines are considered professional grade. They are built to last with vacuum power that far exceeds domestic carpet cleaners. Many hotels, businesses, resorts, restaurants, nursing homes, schools and even contract carpet cleaning services use the Rug Doctor Pro machines.

How long does the Rug Doctor Pro last? How durable is it?

With proper care and maintenance, the Rug Doctor Pro is designed to last a lifetime. The outside covering of the machine is made of a durable thick plastic that can withstand hits and bumps without cracking. The Rug Doctor Pro machines are similar in construction to the Rug Doctor rental machines which stay in circulation for over ten years before retirement and are rented, transported and used several times a week.

When I buy a Rug Doctor Pro does the machine have an hour meter on it?

The blue Rug Doctor Pro machines do not have hour meters. The reason for the hour meter is for rental maintenance purposes only.

What do I get when I purchase a Rug Doctor Pro carpet cleaner?

When you purchase a Mighty Pro or Wide Track machine on offer on this website, you receive the machine, the Universal Hand Tool with mesh storage bag, a 12 month warranty, a 30-day money back guarantee, and a free gift of Rug Doctor's complete line of Rug Doctor carpet cleaning products. Your free gift of cleaning products is worth over £50 and is yours to keep even if you decide to return the machine. This free gift is currently only available with manufacturer-direct purchases.

Why is the Rug Doctor Pro different to other machines?

Other machines are not made with the level of power of a Rug Doctor Pro. Some even have motors that are inadequate for heavy duty cleaning. They are made exclusively for home use and are best applied to spot cleaning or for houses with a small amount of carpeting. Rug Doctor Pro has significantly greater capacity, vacuum power, and durability. It was built for large area carpet cleaning and spot removal.

RUG DOCTOR PRO MAINTENANCE FAQ

Would I ever need to get maintenance check ups for my Rug Doctor Pro like the rental carpet cleaners need to have?

Rug Doctor Pro machines are built to endure the rigours of a commercial market. Privately owned machines can last years with only minor maintenance such as filter and brush cleaning or replacement and occasional lubrication of the machine’s quick coupler connection.

RUG DOCTOR PRO PRODUCT FAQ

Can I use products other than Rug Doctor Pro in the machine?

Products that are not made specifically for water extraction method cleaning of carpets should NEVER be used. Damage can occur - certain types of cleaning chemicals can block up the filters or the pump within the machine or can actually melt or corrode the solution hoses and mechanical parts. Carpets need a specific pH range of cleaning that is effective and won’t damage fibres. As well, products that are not made for the kind of simple rinsing and extraction provided by the machine will leave residues that attract dirt. We do not recommend the use of any cleaners other than Rug Doctor solutions in the Rug Doctor Pro machines. Through extensive testing we have found no products that compare to Rug Doctor in terms of the 3 critical elements carpet cleaning: effective deep-cleaning, pH balanced for safe cleaning and clean rinsing ability.

Can the Rug Doctor Pro solutions be mixed together?

The Rug Doctor Pro range of spray chemicals are all formulated to be applied directly to carpet or upholstery, however they can also be added to the solution inside the machine alongside the detergents with no risk of harm to the machine or your carpets.
Pro Odour Remover in particular can be used as an excellent cleaning booster agent in the machine along with Rug Doctor Pro Carpet Detergent to help take care of stubborn odours in carpets. Its enzyme formula actually attacks the source of odours and helps eliminate them permanently. Heavy odour problems should be treated with a direct application of Odour Remover.

Are the Rug Doctor Pro solutions safe for pets & small children?

All of our Pro cleaning solutions are water based and non-toxic, however, we always recommend that small children and pets are kept out of the areas being cleaned until the carpet dries completely. When cleaning your carpet you will be extracting dust and dirt from the backing of your carpet into the machine, should any of those micro-particles become airborne they could be irritating to those with very sensitive skin and immune systems.

Do you have a product for killing fleas in carpets?

Rug Doctor Pro does not currently produce a product that will kill fleas in carpet.

Do the Rug Doctor Pro products work well for people with allergies? Are the solutions hypoallergenic?

Cleaning of any kind will help people with allergies. Deep cleaning your carpet helps remove the dirt and allergens deeply embedded in your carpet. We have not tested our solutions to be hypoallergenic.

Can I clean Berber carpeting? How about wool? Area rugs? Shag? Oriental? Etc.

To find out how to clean Shag/very heavy pile carpet please click here.

Do not use Rug Doctor Pro machines or products on natural fibre oriental rugs (silk or wool), cashmere, hand-loomed wool rugs, braided rugs, sisal, jute-carpets or anything that states dry clean only.

You can clean area rugs; however, you should remove them from any areas where flooring under the area rug can be damaged by water such as hardwood or laminate flooring. The best way to clean your area rugs is by taking them out side or to your garage and cleaning them there. Once they are completely dry the rugs can be returned to the hardwood flooring.

Can you use the Rug Doctor Pro carpet cleaner on tile, cement or any other hard surface?

Yes you can clean hard floors by attaching the Rug Doctor Pro Hard Floor Tool to your Rug Doctor Pro machine.

Please note that you cannot use the Rug Doctor Pro machine by itself on tile, cement or any other hard surface. (1) At the front of the machine is a hard metal surface that may scratch the hard surface flooring. (2) There is nothing on the machine to capture the water from moving about when sprayed on the surface, the machine does not contain a squeegee.

How do you clean stairs with the Rug Doctor Pro carpet cleaner?

To clean the stairs you use the Hand Tool attachment. Set the machine to “ON” for Upholstery/Hand Tool cleaning and use Upholstery Cleaner solution in the tank.

Can I clean a mattress with a Rug Doctor Pro?

Yes. You can clean your mattress using the Rug Doctor Pro Hand Tool and Rug Doctor Pro Upholstery Cleaner. We recommend that you also use Pro Anti-Foam in the white top recovery tank to minimise potentially damaging foam build-up.

It is very important in cleaning mattresses not to over wet them and to allow plenty of dry time.

We recommend you set your mattress up on its side. Clean one side of the mattress, making sure you go over your cleaning paths a second time without squeezing the Hand Tool lever so that the second pass is vacuum only. Once you have finished one side of the mattress, leave the mattress on its side and let it dry completely before continuing to the next side.

Is the Rug Doctor Pro machine heavy?

An empty standard size Rug Doctor Mighty Pro machine (the smaller model) weighs 15.9kg and the Wide Track  (the bigger model) weighs 19.5kg.

What is the average drying time?

When using the standard/deep clean setting the drying time is approximately 2-4 hours, depending on ventilation in the room, whether the room is heated or not, and the outside temperature. Carpets dry faster in the summer when the windows can stay open and the outside temperature is high. Always ensure that the room is well ventilated.

However, if your Rug Doctor Pro machine has the benefit of the secondary Quick Dry setting your carpets can be dry within 1-2 hours.

Can I use the Rug Doctor Pro to dye my carpets?

Definitely NOT! This can damage your machine and your carpets - traces of the dye are likely to stay inside the machine and will effect carpets and upholstery that you come to clean in the future.
