Vacuuming Is Not Enough! Rent A Rug Doctor

November 14th sees the start of ‘Indoor Allergy Week’, which aims to highlight what can be done to help avoid those household triggers to various allergies.

One in four people in the UK suffer from allergies… the triggers of which can be significantly reduced through regular household cleaning - especially with the deep cleaning of carpets where allergens are known to collect and hide.

Vacuuming alone is simply not enough as fittedcarpet is the biggest air filter in the home - trapping and holding, deep in the pile, allergens that can later irritate the allergy sufferer when the carpet is walked on or disturbed in any way - especially if the vacuum cleaner being used doesn’t contain a HEPA s-class filter.

Carpets are in fact a prime breeding ground for dust mites. Allergens from them can be released into the air and cause real discomfort to allergy sufferers. This can be really bad for young children when they crawl or play on the carpet.

As Winter approaches, more and more time is spent indoors, so it is important to make sure this season of the year is as allergy-free as possible.

All over the house there will be microscopic mould allergens growing - particularly on shed human and animal skin -  invisible to the naked eye, but for people who react to mould or house dust mite droppings, it is the start of what seems like a never ending winter cold – with continuous nasal irritation or dry persistent cough. Sometimes this can trigger headaches, wheezing, asthma attacks and eczema. So deep cleaning the home thoroughly is vital.

Renting a Rug Doctor is the really affordable way to help extract many of the allergens that lurk in household carpets. A whole house - comprising up to 8 rooms - can be deep cleaned for less than £45.00 including 24 hour hire of the machine and 4 litres of Rug Doctor Carpet Detergent.

There's a rental outlet no more than a 10 minute drive from 90% of UK households.

When used as directed, Rug Doctor products are safe to use around both children and pets. As  well as making life a misery for millions, allergens are also causing a preventable burden to the NHS, with the cost to the tax payer as high estimated to be as high as £130 million in Scotland alone, according to research published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Here are a few facts:

1 in 4 people in the UK suffer from allergies.

One particular pest, which has been well reported on, is the house dust mite. The mite needs the warmth and humid atmosphere that centrally heating and double glazing provides. They can affect air quality indoors and cause side effects such as nasal congestion, shortness of breath, itchy eyes, interrupted sleeping patterns and headaches. They are found in bedding, carpets and soft furnishings

A room temperature above 25 degrees will encourage house dust mites to breed.

Dust mites lay 20 to 40 eggs and produce 2000 droppings during their three month life span. The average bed contains 10,000 dust mites and up to two million pellets of droppings.

People can sweat a third of a litre of water at night and this provides the perfect environment for house dust mites as they do not drink but absorb water from the air.

The allergens that come from animals don’t live on their coats - as most people think - but come from their saliva and from the skin flakes they shed. When cats and dogs lick their fur they coat themselves all over in allergens, which are then passed to humans. Feathers on pet birds can also be carriers.
